So, we woke up two hours earlier than we're used to, breakfasted on oven pancakes, homemade jam and yogurt, fixed wet hair, pulled on new socks, skirt and shirt, and then we said goodbye #1. Long sigh. Three hours later, we followed procedure, walked through the busy hallways, hand in hand in hand, greeted old preschool friends and then said goodbye #2, all the while trying to keep it together, trying not to shake her confidence, trying to let her go without tears and a scene. We barely made it. Another long, sad sigh.
"There's just no accounting for happiness, or the way it turns up like a prodigal who comes back to the dust at your feet having squandered a fortune far away." (Jane Kenyon)
