"There's just no accounting for happiness, or the way it turns up like a prodigal who comes back to the dust at your feet having squandered a fortune far away." (Jane Kenyon)

What a Ride

A ride and red velvet, that's all she wanted for her birthday. And no surprise. This one has wanted it fast and crazy her entire life. It's been quite a ride already: born in Utah, 7 months of crying, learned to crawl in Moscow, four years in Virginia, two sisters, back to Utah, one brother, and like those rides, so many thrills and bumps, waiting and spinning, upside down and all around, screams and then smiles. Eleanor has never been a carousel or a merry-go-round girl, there's nothing easy or predictable about her, never has been, but sometimes, there's nothing more thrilling. She's taking us on the ride of our lives. Tilt a Wheel, Utah County Fair
Exuberance after the GravitronWaiting for Lift-off

Some Shade, Ada, Baba and Decco

Red Velvet, as requested
Mesmerized as we sing "Happy Birthday"
That's nine, count them, nine candles
It's only appropriate that Baba was here, she's always been here. She was there, holding my right leg, as I pushed this one out nine years ago, and she's been by our side, loving and helping ever since.

Classy black-and-white photos, by the way. I'm glad I get to know you even if it's from a great distance of both time and space. And ALWAYS classy food! Happy birthday to your biggest girl. :)
